I can FINISH a project and take less than 1 minute (after it’s completed) to drag all the specified folder and files and websites into the Timing project and Wham! I have an accurate total number of hours spent actively working on the project.” James Torn I don’t have to set anything up before I begin working on a project. “Wow! I can’t get over much time this saves me. I love that I don’t have to “start tracking” like so many other time tracking apps make you do.” Kenji Kato I love that it’s unobtrusive (if you want it to be) yet very detailed in it’s collection of data about what apps and documents you are using. “Over the last 30 years of using a Mac I’ve tried a plethora of different time tracking applications, and without a doubt, Timing is my favorite one. It makes it easy to group activities and reap the benefits of manual time tracking with the ease of automation.” Brett Terpstra, MacStories As a result, you can easily see what activities you spent the most time on – and possibly realize that you're not focusing on what you thought you were. “Timing 2 does a brilliant job of grouping tasks together and automatically assigning "keywords" to add new tasks to groups. It's detailed enough that it will track different email threads in Mail and rather than saying you spent five hours using Safari, it will see that ten minutes was on your online banking and the rest was Facebook.” William Gallagher, AppleInsider If you want to, you can go through the list and assign everything to projects. “At the end of a day, you can see how everything has gone: what apps you used, what documents, what websites and always how long you spent in each. This resulted in higher client invoices that expected which ultimately kept me afloat during these strange times. Timing is fantastic and helped me keep track of time spent working on projects. “I've been using your app during lockdown while remote consulting to clients. Now I can make my hours billable.” Guus den Tonkelaar Really valuable for me, being self employed and doing a ton of things per day, in the evening, in the weekends. And when you need to know what you’ve done it’s there, all my hours, by project, by period. No hassle with manual input of data, no allocating to projects, it just records all my work. “Timing is really unobtrusive, it just works, in the background. ![]() ![]() The maximum number of nodes is 200, and the maximum for edges is 400.The graph attribute size should be not be used chs is also not supported. You can select a layout engine in the QuickChart API by adding a parameter layoutdot. ![]() ![]() They're cheap as hell now since they won't work with anything modern (I think I paid $40 for it). Big whoop.įirst I tried an opcode studio 5, which won't run on anything except a 'vintage' mac (I found one from a friend). The only possible drawback I can see is a non-removable power cord. JL Cooper stuff wasn't glamorous but they're made of metal and work great. Back in the day I had the Yamaha and JL Cooper units and they worked perfectly for years. Better to throw a larger rock at the problem and go for the MSB 16/20 and be done with it. There were lots of 8x8 units back then - Akai ME-30p, Digital Music Corp MX-8, Yamaha MJC-8, Roland A-880, Kawai MAV-8, and JL Cooper MSB+, but with 8x8 units and all the gear you mentioned you might wind up with two of them and a plate of spaghetti. A buddy is still using a Sycologic M16 which is more than 20 years old and it works perfectly - if you can find one of these they are pretty cool as they had a desktop remote (with PPG-style buttons!) to change routings and presets - but that's one more thing to go wrong - and I hardly ever see them come up used. When it comes to MIDI stuff like this, older is often better - big MIDI patch bays back then were built for professionals with BIG rigs, built to a very high spec and priced accordingly. JL Cooper MSB 16 20 MIDI Patchbay Router 21130 | eBay Built like a tank, cost a fortune when new, bulletproof reliability, and no USB, drivers or daisy-chain weirdness to struggle with. Honestly this is going to be your best bet. There's a JL Cooper MSB-16/20 on eBay right now for $399. If there's something I'm missing, please let me know Has ANYONE had any experience with the latency times in chaining any of these more modern units? Can any of these systems approach the 0 latency speeds of older 8x8 integrated patchbays? This one actually seems PERFECT, however, it isn't a commercial project. Īnd the final 'solution' I found, was the MIDIbox Matrix project ( mb_matrix ). ![]() I can't seem to find anyone who has tried to chain 2+ of these on a network to use as a patchbay. However, the only reviews of it I can find on gearslutz, is that it has not so great PCMIDI performance. It's very reasonably priced for a 8 I/O box, and seems to be able to do patching as well. Īnother interesting one I found, was the Alyseum AL-88c, which connects over Ethernet (and can be chained). I don't think they were quite designed for this in mind. However, they seem to be a bit overpriced for offering only 4 ports each (compared to the price of 8 on the MIDI Timepiece). There also seems to be the iConnectMIDI units, that lets you chain a bunch together over USB as well. does anyone know if this solution has close to zero latency? I have a hard time believing this connection runs higher than 1x MIDI rate, but I could be wrong. There is also the older MOTU MIDI Timepiece AV USB, which allows a serial connection with another unit. How is the latency on this? Is it acceptable? ![]() There is of course, the MOTU MIDI Express XT, which you apparently can chain 3 or 4 together on a USB hub, and patch between them. I've came up with a whole list of modern options, however, I can't really find any reliable reviews from people using them in this manner. How did studios in the early 90s with 30+ rack instruments patch all their MIDI together? I'm not sure what other possible solutions I could be overlooking. I fully realize that I'm able to use MIDI thru, but that will incur a delay. What is a MODERN solution for patching these together? Is there one? Am I missing something? not to mention any effect units, or racked instruments (which I happen to have many more of). Let's say I have 4 MIDI out from an MPC, 2 from a computer, and 1 from an ASR, that's already using 7 inputs. ![]() is there really NO modern solution for this? The only advice that ever seems to be given is for older patchbays, such as the JL Cooper Synapse or the MSB 16/20 or similar. I see lots of threads on older midi patchbays, midi interfaces, and smaller modern units that are able to patch, but almost nothing on 'what to do these days if you need at LEAST a 16x16 patchbay'. So, I realize there are lots of threads on similar topics, but none on this specific issue. ![]() |
